Ingredients

  • 250 g ripe Camembert cheese
  • 50 g butter softened
  • 50 ml Bavarian beer preferably a dark or amber beer
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove minced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika sweet or smoked
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by removing the Camembert cheese from the refrigerator and allowing it to soften at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the Camembert cheese with a fork until it is smooth and creamy.
  • Add the softened butter to the cheese and continue mashing until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  • Gradually add the beer, mixing it in a little at a time until fully incorporated. The mixture should be creamy and spreadable.
  • Stir in the finely chopped onion, minced garlic (if using), paprika, and caraway seeds.
  • Season the spread with salt and pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly to ensure even distribution of the spices.
  • Transfer the Obatzda to a serving dish, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Before serving, allow the spread to come to room temperature for easier spreading. Serve with pretzels, rye bread, or vegetables.
