Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until they are softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and smoked paprika.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
  • While the beef mixture is simmering, toast the Texas toast slices according to package instructions or until golden brown.
  • Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the toasted side of 4 slices of Texas toast. Top with the remaining slices to form sandwiches.
