- 1 tall can evaporated milk
- 1 egg
- 1 cup cracker crumbs
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 2 tablespoons catsup
- 4 ounces grated American cheese
Line a loaf pan with heavy waxed paper, leaving enough paper hanging over the sides for easy removal later.
In a large bowl combine the evaporated milk, egg, cracker crumbs, ground beef, chopped green pepper, dry mustard, and catsup until thoroughly mixed.
Spread half of the grated American cheese evenly across the bottom of the prepared loaf pan.
Cover the cheese with half of the meat mixture, smoothing it gently into an even layer.
Repeat with the remaining cheese and finish with the rest of the meat mixture spread evenly across the top.
Bake in a 350°F oven for about 1 hour until the loaf is browned and cooked through.
Allow the loaf to rest for about 10 minutes before turning it out onto a serving platter.
Remove the waxed paper carefully, slice the loaf, and serve warm.
